Maria Francisco Montesó, assistant director of South Carolina Centro Latino, and senior instructor at the University of South Carolina Upstate, with more than 10 years of experience teaching Spanish and translation & interpreting in educational settings, graduated from Universitat Jaume I, Spain, (B.A. and M.A.) in translation and interpreting studies in four languages. A doctoral candidate, her research explores interpreting in educational settings and pedagogy in translation and interpreting studies. Her service-learning students have translated and interpreted for more than forty nonprofits. Montesó also created a unique certificate course in SC to train bilinguals in English and Spanish to become professional interpreters in educational settings. She founded seven years ago the Translation & Interpreting Studies Conference at USC Upstate. She serves as faculty mentor for the Líderes Avanzando Through College program and mentors the Latin American Student Association (LASO).
